27th September 2009 Week 25

Name: Wee You

There was a playtesting session this week, and the juniors found a lot of bugs. Firstly, I missed out a few collision boxes in Level 1. Also the recently-editted level 3 proved to be very buggy as well. Luckily for me, I know the reason behind these bugs and solved it quickly.

They also found out about the drag and drop bugs that I was desperately hoping that they won’t notice. Well, this means that other players will see it too. Instead of relying on the internet, this time I read it through clearly and brainstormed for ideas to solve it. With help from Mr. Chong Ming, I finally diagnosed the problems and successfully solved it. Byebye bugs.

Sucks to be working during my birthday though.

20th September 2009 Week 24

Inserted the sounds into the game. This is no problem because I have done it in previous assignments, especially the very recent GAUD. Also, I added the polaroids at the end of the games. Used dispatchEventListeners to help Wen Yan and Peifen in their compilation of work.

13 September 2009 Week 23

Name: Wee You

Me and Meiyi worked on some animation issues for Level 3. Also, we changed the game design a little bit. Now, for Level 3 part two, the player gets to move around using the directional key and interact. This isn’t new as movement is used in Level 1 already. Asked from help from Wen Yan about the interaction, and implemented.

I added an interface that works the same way as level two and four, and completed Level one using the same drag and drop framework. Our game is now ready to be played! I sent my files to Peifen for her to compile it together.

This weeks as I’m linking, I’m linking the animation and adding the skip animation button. As the animation is done in a lot of scene, I’ve have a hard time make it into a movie clip. Also, I have to remove sounds from the timeline and play it using code. Just 3 levels took 1 week of my life away.

I'm officially done!!...This week I've submitted all my work to all the programmers and Begum...We also discussed quite a bit on the marketing...We might be holding a competition to create awareness for our game.

Meiyi and I will be going for our attachment this coming Monday so I'm glad that all my stuff is done...now,its up to the programmers to do their magic....but I do think that I might have to do some add ons to do in the future during the attachment...until they don't contact me about any changes, I'll dare say I'm done with major project...now that's left with is the marketing stuff...posters needs to be designed, websites to do....lots of follow up!!...

Week: 22
Date: 31st August - 6th September
By: MeiYi

This week we made some changes on our game. We wrote down what are the graphics needed and missing. So I continued on the graphics improvement. At the same time, I also drew the newly added drawing when we had a discussion earlier on. I did some animation for Sam as well. One was making her to be seem like she was rescuing Raffles with a knife and the action of cutting the rope that tied up Raffles. The other one was Sam squatting and moving behind the dustbin in order to avoid being spotted by the terrorists. These two animations took me a lot of time to complete it.

6th September 2009 Week 22

Name: Wee You

I received my graphics for Level One from Begum. It’s a big change man. It is now a maze that spans over 4 frames. I spent most of my time redefining the collision boxes. Also in this week, I received the graphics for our main character. It is then implemented into all levels.
Because of the change, the collision of items has to be redone. Now, I have to use a global variable to check whether they are taken or not, instead of simply changing the visibility. I faced my worst enemy, TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

This error occurs whenever you try to access something of a null object reference. Sounds simple, but most of the time, it’s not that it’s null, but just that it is in another frame. This run time error is the worst error to debug. WORST.

This week while debugging, I am linking my levels together. I’ve manage to link my 5 stages in level 8 together and it’s working. I think I would be able to link other levels using the same way. Also, I’ve also add in sound effect for the levels.

Generally I'm about done because all the sounds are added in, the subs are done...But I've realised that I need the synching needs a bit of work but after editing it a lot of times, I realised that it works faster on some computers and slower on other computers.

I consulted Mr Chong Ming about it and he said that nothing can be helped on that because it might be because of the processing speed of the computers which vary from one to another. So far, I'm quite happy with my work...it is not perfect but I gave my all...although, I'm still trying to edit here and there whenever I can...there's not much time for me because I'll be going to my attachment soon so whatever work I need to do, it needs to be done by next week.
